Preston Manor & Gardens

Preston Manor is a manor house museum in Brighton with four levels showing both the family's living spaces and the servants' quarters that once bustled alongside them. The building displays how different classes lived within the same walls.

The building started as a simple stone structure in the 13th century and underwent major reconstruction in 1738 before receiving its current appearance in 1905. These building phases mark different eras of architectural style.

The Stanford family shaped this place over two centuries, leaving behind their furniture, ceramics, and silver that reflect how wealthy households lived and what they valued. Walking through the rooms, you see their personal taste in every object.

Wheelchair access is limited to the basement and ground floor, with a side ramp available as an alternative to the main entrance stairs. It is worth checking ahead about which areas you can reach comfortably.

The walled garden is divided into four connected sections, including an 18th-century design and a dedicated pet cemetery that reveals how much the household valued their animals. This thoughtful arrangement is rarely seen today.
