Richard Coeur de Lion, Equestrian statue at Old Palace Yard in Westminster, England

The bronze sculpture depicts King Richard I mounted on horseback, wearing chainmail and a crowned helmet while raising his sword toward the sky.

The statue, completed in 1856 by Carlo Marochetti, survived World War II bombing that bent the sword and damaged its granite pedestal near Parliament.

The monument features bas-relief panels illustrating Richard I's involvement in battles during the Crusades and the circumstances of his death.

Visitors can find this Grade II listed structure at the intersection of Abingdon Street and Old Palace Yard, near the House of Lords entrance.

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert supported public fundraising efforts to transform the original clay model from the 1851 Great Exhibition into bronze.
