The Speaker's House occupies a section of the Palace of Westminster, containing sixty to seventy rooms arranged in a parallelogram measuring 100 by 85 feet.
Following the 1834 Parliament fire, architect Charles Barry incorporated the Speaker's House into the Palace of Westminster reconstruction, completing it in 1857.
The State Dining Room features a dark grey marble fireplace and ceiling decorations displaying the arms of different Houses of Parliament throughout British history.
The Speaker's residence maintains direct access to the House of Commons chamber through the Speakers' Corridor, facilitating rapid movement during parliamentary sessions.
Each morning when Parliament convenes, the Speaker leads a formal procession from the residence to the House of Commons, marking the start of daily proceedings.
