Saxtead Green Windmill

The wooden structure of Saxtead Green Mill extends over three floors and features four patent sails mounted on a cast-iron windshaft for grain processing.

The current mill was constructed in 1796 and operated until 1947, serving the local community for grain processing throughout the Georgian and Victorian periods.

The mill stands as a representation of agricultural engineering from the late 18th century, displaying the traditional milling techniques used in Suffolk.

Visitors can access the mill from April through September on Fridays, Saturdays, and Bank Holidays to explore its internal mechanisms and machinery.

The entire mill structure rotates on a central post to face the wind, while a six-bladed fantail automatically adjusts its position.
