Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, London, Hindu temple in Neasden, London, England
The Shri Swaminarayan Mandir covers 102,018 square feet and features Bulgarian limestone alongside Indian and Italian marble in its construction, rising to 21 meters.
The temple opened in 1995 after a massive concrete foundation pour of 4,500 tons in November 1992, marking the beginning of construction for Britain's first authentic Hindu temple.
The temple hosts celebrations of Hindu festivals throughout the year and maintains a permanent exhibition explaining Hindu traditions through 3D dioramas and traditional artwork.
Located on Pramukh Swami Road, the temple includes conference halls, a gymnasium, health clinic, library, and souvenir shop to serve community needs.
The temple construction involved 450 craftsmen and numerous volunteers who followed ancient Vedic texts without using structural steel in the building process.
