Spains Hall, Grade I listed country house in Finchingfield, England
Spains Hall is an Elizabethan manor house in the village of Finchingfield, built with timber framing and Dutch-style gables. The building displays detailed craftsmanship on its exterior walls and interior rooms that reflect the building methods of that era.
The manor was first recorded in 1086 when Hervey de Ispania held the property. Ownership passed through three families over the following centuries, shaping the development of the entire site.
The grounds follow a design commissioned at the start of the 19th century, transforming older fishponds into ornamental water elements. Visitors walking the paths today encounter these carefully shaped features that reflect the shift from practical farming to decorative garden art.
The grounds now contain renovated cottages available for self-catering stays, equipped with kitchens and private outdoor spaces. Public footpaths cross the land, allowing visitors to walk through the surrounding parkland.
A well-known chef purchased the property in 2019 and began work on preserving its protected structure. Ongoing repairs include restoring the original windows that form part of its listed architectural heritage.
