St John's Jerusalem, Medieval chapel and garden in Sutton-at-Hone, England
The chapel stands within a garden bordered by a moat fed by the River Darent, featuring established trees and herbaceous plantings throughout the grounds.
Built in 1199, the chapel served as part of a Commandery for the Knights Hospitaller, with sections later transformed into residential quarters.
The Grade II listed building preserves elements of medieval religious architecture, reflecting the presence of the Knights Hospitaller in medieval England.
Visitors can access the chapel and gardens from April through September on Wednesdays between 14:00 and 18:00, with reduced hours in October.
The property maintains its original moat system from the 13th century, creating a contained garden space that separates it from the surrounding area.
