Beaufort Castle, Category A listed stone castle in Inverness-shire, Scotland
The baronial mansion stands on the right bank of the River Beauly, constructed from stone with defensive ditches surrounding its perimeter.
The original fortress on this site dates back to 1106 during Alexander I's reign, while the current structure represents the twelfth building erected there.
The Fraser clan maintained this stronghold through generations, with Simon Fraser, known as The Fox, playing a key role in the Jacobite rebellions.
Located 13 miles west of Inverness along the A862 road, visitors can access the castle grounds through designated roadside parking areas.
The castle retains an 11-meter-long section of the original Dounie Castle wall, built around 1400 and measuring 1.5 meters in thickness.
