Church of St John the Divine, Gothic Revival church in Richmond upon Thames, England
Church of St John the Divine is a Gothic Revival church in Richmond with a wide nave, pointed gable, and yellow brick walls crowned by a spired belcote. The interior features a gallery at the western end and leads into a narthex through the west porch.
The building was designed by Lewis Vulliamy in 1831 and is Grade II listed. Arthur Grove added the chancel, Lady Chapel, vestry, and sacristy in 1904.
The church operates within Anglican Catholic traditions, with Sunday Eucharist as the primary service and formal liturgical practices woven into worship. Visitors experience this blend of ceremonial formality and spiritual devotion during services.
The church can be entered through the west porch, which leads into the narthex beneath a gallery. The building is accessible on foot and interior spaces are easy to navigate.
Eric Gill created detailed carvings and lettering in the chancel between 1905 and 1907. These intricate hand-crafted decorations represent early 20th-century artisanal work within the space.
