St John the Evangelist's Church, Crawshawbooth

The sandstone structure features pointed arches, detailed stonework, square-headed two-light windows, and a clerestory along the nave with intricate tracery patterns.

The architectural firm Sharpe, Paley and Austin designed this Grade II* listed church in 1892, with construction costs reaching £12,000 due to foundation issues.

The interior displays red Rainhill sandstone walls, carved wooden screens between nave and chancel, and statues of the Four Evangelists on the reredos.

The church remained an active Anglican place of worship until 2012, when structural issues including water damage and dry rot led to its closure.

The community organization 'Save St Johns' currently works on finding new functions for this building, listed on the Heritage at Risk Register.
