Soho Theatre, Theatre in City of Westminster, United Kingdom
The Soho Theatre on Dean Street holds three separate performance spaces: a main auditorium with 165 seats, a studio with 90, and a cabaret room with 140. The variety of room sizes allows different types of shows to run simultaneously.
The theatre was founded in 1969 by Verity Bargate and Fred Proud, then relocated to its present building in 2000 following National Lottery funding for construction. This move enabled the creation of the multi-space layout that serves the venue today.
The venue awards new writing talent every year, supporting emerging British playwrights and performers in developing their craft. This commitment to fresh voices shapes what you see on stage here today.
The venue sells drinks from 10:30 in the morning until 2 am on weekdays, with shortened hours on Sundays. Most performances require you to book tickets in advance.
The organization runs a second venue in Walthamstow housed in a former cinema building being transformed into a contemporary performance space. This expansion shows the company's growth beyond its Soho base.
