Dog and Duck, Grade II listed pub in Soho, London, United Kingdom
Dog and Duck is a Victorian pub in Soho featuring thousands of glazed tiles covering its interior walls and surfaces. These decorative tiles showcase the careful craftsmanship and attention to architectural detail typical of late 1800s London establishments.
The building was constructed in 1897 by architect Francis Chambers for Cannon Brewery. The site had previously hosted the residence of the Duke of Monmouth beginning in 1734 before being redeveloped for this pub.
The establishment has long attracted writers and artists who gathered here to exchange ideas and spend time together. The rooms still carry the presence of these creative visitors in their character and appeal.
The pub is located on Bateman Street in Soho and operates during standard opening hours. Traditional British food and real ales are served, though visiting outside peak times offers a more comfortable experience.
The upstairs dining room is named after George Orwell, one of the most renowned writers who frequented the establishment. The pub received a visit from senior members of the royal family in 2023.
