The baroque revival church stands at the intersection of Hill Street and Rose Street, featuring a prominent tower and elaborate architectural details throughout its exterior.
The foundation stone was placed on October 4, 1908, and Belgian architect Charles Ménart completed the construction for the opening on February 6, 1910.
The church includes four dedicated spaces: Sacred Heart Chapel, Lady Chapel, Holy Souls Chapel, and St Ignatius Chapel, plus the St John Ogilvie national shrine.
The church maintains regular services and connects with St Aloysius College through school assemblies and masses for both junior and senior students.
Two bells in the church tower originated from St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh and were installed during the initial construction phase in 1910.
