St Peter's Church, Field Broughton, church in South Lakeland, UK
St Peter's Church in Field Broughton is a church built in Gothic Revival style between 1892 and 1894 by architects Paley and Austin. The building is constructed from limestone with sandstone details, features a red tiled roof, and is topped by a tall pointed spire rising about 110 feet above the ground.
A chapel has stood on this site since the mid-1700s, originally built to serve the nearby Cartmel Priory. In 1892, the old chapel was replaced with a new building, which was consecrated in 1894 and established as St Peter's Church.
The church is named after Saint Peter and has served the local community as a gathering place since its completion in 1894. It remains active in village life, hosting regular services, weddings, baptisms, and other ceremonies that mark important moments for residents.
The church is open during daylight hours and offers a quiet space for visiting and prayer. The surrounding churchyard is well-maintained and provides a peaceful place to walk, especially on days when community events are held or after services.
The stained glass window in the east part of the church was created by Charles Kempe and consists of five panels that fill the interior with colored light. Another window by William Morris depicts the virtues of faith, hope, and charity, created by a renowned artist and designer of the period.
