St Andrew's Church, Waterloo Street, Hove, Grade I listed church building in Waterloo Street, Hove, England.
St Andrew's Church on Waterloo Street is an Anglican church building displaying Italianate style with symmetrical stone walls, round columns, and pointed arcade arches. The interior features a ceiling decorated with celestial patterns including stars and planets, along with ornamental baldacchinos positioned above the altar and font.
The building was designed in 1827 by architect Charles Barry to serve the expanding Brunswick estate community. An expansion followed in 1834 to accommodate the growing population living in the Waterloo Street area.
The church functions as a community gathering space for regular worship and remains central to the neighborhood's spiritual life. The interior decoration reflects a blend of English and Italian design traditions that visitors can observe.
The entrance is accessible via two shallow steps from the pavement, though maneuvering a wheelchair inside the building requires careful navigation. It is advisable to contact ahead to understand the extent of accessible spaces.
The interior contains ornamental baldacchinos installed in 1925 by Randoll Blacking that integrate Italian architectural elements into the English structure. These additions demonstrate how design influences from different cultures were incorporated into the building.
