Embassy Court, Modernist residential complex in Brighton and Hove, England.
Embassy Court is an 11-story residential tower on Kings Road with white rendered facades, expansive windows, and balconies facing the Brighton seafront. The building originally contained about 73 luxury apartments designed with high-end finishes and service amenities.
Architect Wells Coates designed and completed this building in 1935 as an early example of modern residential architecture on the English coast. It introduced contemporary design principles to Brighton's shoreline during the 1930s.
The building served wealthy residents who employed household staff in separate quarters with their own entrances, revealing how privileged living depended on invisible support workers.
Guided tours run from April through October for groups of about 12 people, allowing you to explore the foyer, rooftop terrace, and original architectural features. The building is located directly on the seafront, making it easily accessible for visitors walking along the coast.
The building preserves an original 1930s kitchen, maintained through partnership with Brighton Museum, showing how a wealthy household of that era conducted daily cooking and food preparation. This rare domestic interior allows visitors to see the actual spatial arrangements and equipment used in high-end homes of the period.
