St. Mary Magdalen Priory, Lincoln, Benedictine priory in Lincoln, England
The priory features traditional monastic buildings with a chapel located on Monks Road, managed by St Mary's Abbey in York.
Founded during Henry II's reign, the priory served as a small monastic cell to oversee the estates belonging to St Mary's Abbey in York.
The priory maintained divine services and managed extensive properties across Lincoln, including the church of St Peter ad fontem from 1461.
The monastery complex supported a prior and two monks who managed local estates, collecting rents worth 23 pounds annually before its closure.
Archaeological excavations at the site revealed evidence of a Roman villa from the 4th century beneath the medieval monastic structures.
