St Mary and St Abraam Coptic Orthodox Church, Hove, Coptic Orthodox church in Hove, England
St Mary and St Abraam is a red-brick church building with pointed arches and tall windows designed in the English Gothic style. Inside, the space features traditional Coptic Orthodox architectural and decorative elements.
The building was constructed in 1909 as an Anglican church dedicated to St Thomas the Apostle. It was purchased in 1993 and converted to serve the Coptic Orthodox community.
The church serves Egyptian and Sudanese worshippers and maintains Coptic Orthodox traditions through regular services and religious education. Visitors can observe artwork and practices that reflect Eastern Christian customs.
The church is located on Davigdor Road in Hove and welcomes visitors during service times. Check ahead for opening hours to plan your visit appropriately.
Inside stands a carved wooden iconostasis featuring Egyptian craftsmanship, assembled by community volunteers on site in 2000. This handmade centerpiece reflects the dedication of the local congregation in creating their sacred space.
