Stanford Hall, Leicestershire, Grade I listed house museum in Lutterworth, England
Stanford Hall is a brick country house with symmetrical windows and a grand entrance framed by columns that rise through two stories to support the roof above. The building contains multiple rooms furnished with pieces and collections gathered over centuries by the families who lived there.
The Cave family held the estate from 1430 until William Smith of Warwick designed the present brick structure in the 1690s for Sir Roger Cave. After its construction, the house remained privately owned and underwent gradual changes to its interiors as each generation lived within it.
The rooms contain period furnishings that show how the family lived across different eras, with pieces reflecting the tastes and comfort of wealthy residents from the 1600s onward. These objects reveal daily routines and social habits through their arrangement and style.
The house opens on selected days throughout the year, and guided tours lead visitors through the rooms and collections. It helps to check opening times in advance and allow time to walk through at a comfortable pace.
The grounds preserve a replica of Percy Pilcher's aircraft 'The Hawk', which conducted flight trials on the property in the 1890s. This replica marks an unusual connection between the estate and an early chapter of aviation history.
