Bradley

Bradley is a 14th-century manor house in Newton Abbot with thick stone walls, exposed timber beams, and a large hall filled with period furnishings. The complex includes a private chapel and outbuildings typical of English country houses from this era.

The manor was founded in the 14th century and underwent significant alterations during the Tudor period in the 15th and 16th centuries. These changes blended medieval and early modern architectural styles within a single structure.

The rooms show how prosperous English families lived across many generations, with spaces reflecting their daily tasks and celebrations. The preserved furnishings and decorations reveal the domestic customs of the era.

The house is open from March through October with visitor parking and pathways suited to different mobility needs. It is wise to check opening days in advance and allow time to explore both the interior rooms and the chapel.

A small chapel on the property preserves original medieval wall paintings depicting religious scenes and geometric patterns dating from the 15th century. These painted walls survive remarkably well and offer insight into the artistic skills of that era.
