St Michael and All Angels Church, Brownsover, Medieval church in Brownsover, England.
St Michael and All Angels Church is a Gothic church in Brownsover built with cream-colored stone walls accented in reddish-brown freestone and covered with clay tiles. The structure has a nave and chancel section typical of English church design from the medieval period.
Construction began in 1201, and the building underwent major changes during the Victorian era. In 1876, architect George Gilbert Scott directed extensive renovations that transformed the structure's appearance.
The interior holds a 13th-century font and displays wooden carvings from English and foreign sources spanning multiple centuries, which visitors notice while walking through. These pieces reflect how the place has gathered craftwork from different times and places.
To enter the building, arrange to collect a key from a nearby address on Brownsover Lane in advance. Parking is tight with space for only one or two cars near the church.
The organ case dates to 1660 and was originally made for St John's College in Cambridge before being relocated here. This rare survival shows how an important musical instrument was moved from a famous college to a village church.
