St Michael and All Angels Church, Hughenden, Grade II listed church in Hughenden, England.
St Michael and All Angels Church is a church building in Early English Gothic style located in Hughenden, England. It features flint walls, tiled roofs, and a richly decorated chancel containing medieval elements from its original structure.
The building was constructed between 1100 and 1135 by Geoffrey de Clinton and is one of the oldest structures in the area. It underwent major restoration from 1874 to 1890 when Benjamin Disraeli was closely involved with the nearby Hughenden Manor.
The church holds the original Banner and Insignia of the Order of the Garter, transferred directly from Queen Victoria following Benjamin Disraeli's death. These royal items display the close connection between the place and the British monarchy.
The church is open for regular Sunday services and is available for wedding ceremonies and community gatherings throughout the week. It is worth checking opening times before your visit, as access may vary depending on events or services scheduled.
Queen Victoria commissioned a memorial to Benjamin Disraeli positioned near the chancel, an extraordinary royal tribute to a subject within an English parish church. This honorific gesture remains singular of its kind throughout the country.
