St Michael and All Angels Church, Lowfield Heath

St Michael and All Angels Church is a Gothic Revival building constructed from yellow sandstone with a southwest tower topped by a shingled timber spire. Its most striking feature is the large rose window at the western end, surrounded by intricately carved panels.

Architect William Burges designed and built the church in 1867, with consecration on December 1, 1868. It originally served the needs of the village community during that period.

The carved rose window shows the Four Ages of Man, reflecting how the local community expressed spiritual themes through its architecture.

The church sits within an industrial area near Gatwick Airport, where parking is limited and surroundings are heavily developed. Visitors should expect a built-up environment with modern structures surrounding the historic building.

The church remains the only original structure from the old village that survives today, while the surrounding landscape transformed dramatically. This contrast between the historic building and the modern industrial surroundings makes it a striking reminder of a vanished way of life.
