St Michael and All Angels Church, Mottram, Anglican church in Mottram in Longdendale, England.
St Michael and All Angels Church is a stone building with a prominent four-stage tower reinforced by angled buttresses, a three-light window on the west side, and two-light openings in the bell chamber. The structure displays typical English Gothic proportions and was built using regional stone with careful craftsmanship.
The present structure dates from the late 15th century, when Sir Edmund Shaa, Lord Mayor of London, provided funds for the tower in 1488. This sponsorship reflected the wealth and connections of the local merchant class to powerful patrons.
The church houses life-size stone effigies of Sir Ralph and Lady Elizabeth Staveleigh from 1420, reflecting the craftsmanship and status of local nobility from that era.
The building offers level access throughout all main areas, making it easy to visit. Parking is available nearby, and bicycle storage is provided for those arriving by bike.
The altar rail was crafted by renowned craftsman Robert Thompson of Kilburn and includes his distinctive carved mouse signature. This hidden detail often goes unnoticed by visitors, though it adds a charming small touch to the interior.
