Dovecot Studios

Dovecot Studios is a weaving studio and arts venue housed in a converted Victorian building with exhibition galleries and a viewing area. The space features working looms, display rooms for contemporary art, and large windows that fill the interior with daylight.

Founded in 1912, the studio initially brought in weavers trained at William Morris' renowned workshops in London. This connection to the Arts and Crafts movement established a tradition of skilled handcraft that continues today.

The studio presents textile exhibitions and produces handmade tapestries through partnerships with artists from around the world. Visitors encounter a working space where this traditional craft remains central to contemporary art practice.

The venue is located within walking distance of Edinburgh Waverley station and opens Monday through Saturday. You can watch weavers at work, join guided tours, or participate in hands-on creative workshops during your visit.

The building was originally a Victorian swimming pool, and traces of its past use remain visible within the current structure. This unexpected conversion shows how historic spaces can be reimagined for contemporary artistic practice.
