Forton Hall

Forton Hall is a 17th-century house featuring a sandstone exterior, hipped slate roof, and a decorative porch with columns framing the central entrance. The building displays traditional architectural details typical of its period.

Edwin Skrymsher of Norbury Manor built the hall in 1665, as confirmed by a datestone on the porch. The Skrymsher family maintained a substantial presence in the area over many generations.

The hall sits next to Forton Church, linking it to centuries of local religious and community life. Its position reflects how closely the family was woven into village affairs.

Visitors can tour the house by prior arrangement through the property management office for guided visits. It is advisable to book ahead to ensure availability.

An alabaster tomb of Sir Thomas Skrymsher and his wife Anne stands outside the house, marking the family's long history in the region. This monument reveals how significant the family was to the local area.
