The Forum, Bath, Art Deco entertainment center in Bath, England
The Forum is a Bath Stone building on St James's Parade in Bath, England, housing a large auditorium that seats around 1,600 people. The interior is finished in an Art Deco style, with ornate candelabra and decorative lighting throughout the hall.
The building was designed in 1934 by William Henry Watkins and E Morgan Willmott, using a steel frame structure dressed in a neoclassical style. It opened as a cinema and entertainment venue and has since taken on different roles while keeping its original interior largely intact.
The Forum is home to Life Church Bath, which holds regular services in the main hall alongside concerts and other live events. The mix of sacred and secular use gives the space a daily rhythm that few venues of this kind still maintain.
The main entrance is on St James's Parade and is clearly signed, making it easy to find on foot. Inside, staircases and lifts connect the different seating levels, and the layout is straightforward to navigate.
When the building opened, it was fitted with a heating system that combined standard radiators with a washed air circulation method, which was unusual for a public venue in the 1930s. This kept the large hall at a comfortable temperature even during long events in all seasons.
