Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker, former government-owned nuclear bunker in England
Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker is an underground military facility built into the countryside of Cheshire. The complex contains a network of corridors with rooms for government communications, radar monitoring, cipher operations, radio transmission, plus dormitories and offices for staff.
The site began in World War II as a radar station protecting railway lines, then was rebuilt in the 1950s as an underground RAF facility through the ROTOR project. After the Cold War ended the government closed the station in 1992 and a private owner opened it as a museum in 1998.
The name comes from its location near Hack Green in Cheshire. Today the bunker reflects how people lived and worked during the Cold War, with preserved rooms and equipment showing the everyday reality of that era.
The bunker sits in the countryside near Nantwich with clear signage for visitors to find. The site is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays except during school holidays and bank holidays, so check opening times in advance.
Visitors can see a recreation of a Soviet missile control room and a BBC studio showing how media would have functioned during an emergency. The site displays decommissioned nuclear weapons and has appeared in television shows like Most Haunted.
