The Haining, Category A listed country house in Selkirk, Scotland
The Haining is a three-story country house with classical architecture and a two-story wing located near the loch in Selkirk. The building features an arcaded portico on the north side and an Ionic loggia on the south side, creating distinct character to each elevation.
Mark Pringle commissioned the construction in 1794, with architect William Elliot designing the building in classical style. The property has since been adapted for cultural use while maintaining its historical structure.
The house operates as a cultural center hosting art exhibitions and events throughout the year, with artist studios now occupying the converted Coach House. Local creative professionals use these spaces for their work and often present their projects to visitors.
The house is open for exhibitions and events, with holiday accommodation available for longer stays through local booking services. Check ahead about current exhibitions and activities, as these change seasonally.
A statue called Old Ginger stands in the kennel yard, representing the ancestral line of the Dandie Dinmont Terrier breed. This quirky memorial to local breeding history often surprises visitors who stumble upon it.
