Totteridge Fields, Nature reserve in Totteridge, London Borough of Barnet, England.
Totteridge Fields is a protected nature reserve in north London spanning 97 hectares of grassland bordered by ancient hedgerows and meadows. The Dollis Brook waterway runs through the site with walking paths following its course across the land.
In the early 1990s local residents successfully blocked plans to convert the fields into a cemetery. This led to the London Wildlife Trust taking over management and protecting the site as a nature reserve.
The fields are managed through traditional hay cutting and cattle grazing, preserving centuries-old land management practices. Visitors can watch how livestock shapes the landscape through everyday farming methods.
The site is accessible by bus or by walking about 30 minutes from Totteridge and Whetstone station on the Northern Line. The paths follow field routes, so waterproof footwear is wise during wet weather.
The land is divided into three named sections: Nutt Field, Hen Mead, and Nearer Slay Land, each with its own character. These areas shelter rare beetle and spider species that careful observers might spot while walking through.
