St Mary's Church, Church building in Fratton, Portsmouth, United Kingdom.
St Mary's Church is a church building in Fratton constructed in Neo-Perpendicular Gothic style. The structure spans 64 meters in length and features a 51-meter-high tower alongside decorative oak roof work and vaulted ceilings throughout its interior.
The site was established in 1164 when Baldwin de Portsea informed Bishop Henry de Blois of a land donation for religious purposes. This event marked the beginning of continuous use of the location for church activities.
The church serves as a gathering place for worship and concerts where local communities come together regularly. Visitors can experience how people in this neighborhood use the space for both spiritual practice and cultural events.
The building offers plenty of seating and provides parking spaces for visitors with disabilities. The premises also support guests using hearing aids and welcome guide dogs.
The organ inside has around 2600 pipes and was built to resemble cathedral-style instruments. This scale and design make it a notable installation for a parish church on the South Coast.
