Castle Lachlan, Country house in Strathlachlan, Scotland.
Castle Lachlan is a two-story stone country house in Strathlachlan with Scottish baronial architecture and large windows. The building overlooks Loch Fyne's waters and surrounding mountains while sitting within woodland and open grounds.
The house was built in 1790 by Donald Maclachlan to replace a fortress from the 15th century. The family wanted a modern home suited for peaceful times rather than defense.
The mansion shows how Scottish families wanted to create comfortable homes while staying connected to their landscape in the 18th century. The rooms still reflect how people of that era chose to live.
The grounds cover about 2,000 acres of land with trails through woodland and fields. Visitors can also explore the ruins of the earlier fortress located nearby on the property.
In 1910 the interior was redesigned by architect George Mackie Watson and received new wooden elements and stone fireplaces of that period. These features from that era remain visible in many rooms today.
