John Burnet Hall, Student residence hall in St Andrews, Scotland.
John Burnet Hall is a student residence in St Andrews, Scotland, made up of two connected buildings on the edge of the town centre. One part of the building offers shared rooms, while a separate annexe provides private en-suite rooms.
The building opened in 1898 as the Atholl Hotel and operated as a commercial guesthouse for several decades. After a major renovation in 1962, it was converted into student housing for the University of St Andrews in 1965.
John Burnet Hall uses green and blue as its house colors, which appear in decorations and shared spaces throughout the building. These colors give residents a sense of belonging to a defined community within the wider university.
The residence sits within walking distance of St Andrews city centre and the main university buildings. Meals are served daily on site, which makes it a self-contained base for residents throughout the week.
The building stands directly beside the 18th hole of the Old Course, one of the most recognized golf courses in the world. Residents can watch golfers finishing their rounds from certain windows without stepping outside.
