Lands of Elliston, Medieval estate in Lochwinnoch, Scotland.
Lands of Elliston is a medieval estate in Lochwinnoch featuring a late medieval stone tower near Castle Semple Loch. The structure displays defensive characteristics typical of Scottish fortified buildings from that era, with gun-ports and vaulted chambers built into its thick walls.
The Sempill family held these lands from 1220 onwards as part of their control over the region. The estate was eventually absorbed into the larger Castle Semple barony, becoming part of a more extensive landholding system.
The estate demonstrates the architectural evolution of Scottish defensive structures, featuring gun-ports and vaults within its medieval design.
The ruins can be reached via the historic Beith to Paisley Road, which passes through the Lochwinnoch area and connects local settlements. Today the remains appear as foundation outlines and fragmented wall sections that are partially overgrown.
The castle's strategic position allowed it to guard important communication routes, leading to its incorporation into the larger Castle Semple barony.
