Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin

The Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin is built from Cotswold stone and features a four-bay nave with clerestory windows, a chancel, south aisle, and chapel. The stone structure and its interior layout create a typical English parish church arrangement.

The building incorporates stones from an earlier Saxon structure and underwent major rebuilding during the 14th and 15th centuries. The tower was added during this renovation period and has defined the church's appearance ever since.

The church contains monuments to the Jenkinson family, including Robert Jenkinson who served as Prime Minister from 1812 to 1827. These memorials are visible throughout the interior and connect this place to significant figures in English political life.

The church is accessible during daytime hours and provides parking and a shop for visitors. It helps to check opening hours before your visit and wear sturdy shoes since older stone buildings can have uneven floors.

The tower preserves a rare medieval three-pit bell cage dating to the 14th century. This remarkable piece of early bell-making history is now complemented by eight modern bells that were installed more recently.
