Warwick Castle, Victorian pub in Maida Vale, England
Warwick Castle is a Victorian pub located at 6 Warwick Place with three separate drinking areas adorned with matchboard paneling and a marble fireplace in the side room. The interior retains original features including recessed panels on the bar counter, decorative brackets, and leaded windows with colored inserts from its founding era.
The building was constructed in 1846 and received Grade II listed status in 1987. This protection ensured the preservation of its Victorian architectural elements including scrolled iron lamp brackets.
Artist Edward Ardizzone documented this pub in illustrations from 1927, which later appeared in Maurice Gorham's publication 'Back to the Local'. These artworks show how the place was perceived within the local arts community.
The pub operates daily from noon to 11 PM and serves four cask ales including Greene King IPA. Front garden tables provide additional seating for guests.
The pub served as inspiration for Edward Ardizzone, a prominent 20th century illustrator who created artwork here. His artistic observations of the space were later documented and shared in published collections.
