Church of All Saints, church in Wyke Regis, Dorset, United Kingdom
Church of All Saints is a late medieval church built from Portland stone in Wyke Regis, a district of Weymouth. The building features thick stone walls, a tall roof, and a distinctive tower that can be seen from a distance.
A church stood on this site from at least 1172, but the current building was completed and dedicated in 1455. In the 1800s, interior furnishings such as pews and an organ were added, and a gate was built at the churchyard entrance in 1896.
The church has served as a community gathering place since the 15th century and continues to host worship services and local events today. The gravestones in the churchyard tell stories of families who have lived in the area for generations.
The church is located in the center of Wyke Regis and is easily accessible on foot from Weymouth town center. The surrounding area has quiet streets, making it convenient to explore the exterior and churchyard.
The tower once served as a navigational landmark for sailing ships traveling along the coast. The churchyard contains graves of sailors who died in two significant shipwrecks, including a captain who was the brother of poet William Wordsworth.
