Weymouth, Coastal town in Dorset, England.

Weymouth is a coastal town in Dorset, England, sitting on a sheltered bay where the River Wey flows into the English Channel. The sandy beach curves gently along the esplanade, while the harbor beside it remains in use by fishing boats.

George III visited the town regularly from the 1780s to bathe in the sea, turning it into a fashionable resort for British society. The Nothe Fort was completed in 1872 to defend the coast against potential attacks.

The name comes from the River Wey, which flows into the sea here and has shaped the harbor for centuries. Along the seafront, Georgian houses built from pale stone define the town's appearance and give an impression of how holidaymakers lived in the 19th century.

The beach is flat and suitable for swimming, with lifeguards on duty during summer months. The esplanade is easy to walk along, and boat trips along the coast can be arranged from the harbor.

A statue of George III stands on the esplanade, marking the royal visits and now serving as a popular meeting point. During summer months, sand is regularly added from the seabed to maintain the width of the beach.
