Bowleaze Cove is a sand and shingle beach on the coast just north of Weymouth, sheltered at the base of low cliffs. It has a slipway for launching small boats and a short pier used by anglers.
On Jordan Hill above the cove, a Roman temple once stood, showing that this stretch of coast was already in use during antiquity. The site points to a long history of human presence along this part of the Dorset shoreline.
The cove sits just far enough from central Weymouth to feel like a local spot rather than a tourist destination. Families tend to gather near the shallower end of the beach, while others use the open water for kayaking and similar activities.
The cove has a cafe, a gift shop, and a pub within easy walking distance of the beach. A car boot sale takes place in the parking area on Mondays, and a funfair operates nearby during summer.
The River Jordan flows into the sea directly at the beach, creating shallow pools that are popular with young children. This small river also gave its name to Jordan Hill above the cove, where the Roman temple ruins were found.
