Victoria Mill

Victoria Mill is a six-story textile factory in Miles Platting with a distinctive octagonal chimney and double-building construction alongside the Rochdale Canal. The structure has been converted into office and residential spaces while retaining its original architectural character.

The mill was built in 1867 for William Holland and expanded in 1873 to meet growing cotton demand. It stands as a symbol of Manchester's rise as a production center during the industrial era.

The mill recalls a time when Manchester was the heart of cotton production and workers came from across the globe to labor here. The structure reflects how central this place was to the city and its working people.

The building now houses offices and apartments, so public access inside is limited, but the exterior facade is clearly visible from the street. Visitors can best appreciate the site by exploring the surrounding area and observing how it sits alongside the canal.

The canal alongside the mill was far more than decoration, connecting the site directly to raw material sources and enabling goods to be shipped out with ease. This waterway was part of the larger network that powered Manchester's industrial dominance.
