Ardverikie House, Category A listed mansion in Highland, Scotland
Ardverikie House is a category A listed mansion in Highland, Scotland, built in Scottish Baronial style with towers, turrets and granite walls that stand near the shore of Loch Laggan with views toward the Grampian Mountains. The building forms a compact complex with outbuildings and gardens, surrounded by open woodland and rolling hills across the estate.
The estate was built in 1871 by architect John Rhind for the Macpherson family and replaced an earlier house on the site. Before reconstruction, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert stayed here for three weeks in 1847.
This residence became widely known under the fictional name Glenbogle in the BBC series Monarch of the Glen and remains familiar to viewers who remember its portrayal of Highland life. Visitors come today to see the landscape and architecture featured throughout the show.
The property offers guided tours through the main reception rooms by advance booking and rents several holiday cottages on the grounds. Access follows a private road that runs through woodland and along the loch shore.
The grounds are home to a herd of around one thousand red deer, among the larger wild herds found in this part of Scotland. Since 1990, a private hydroelectric station on the river generates power for the buildings and surrounding homes.
