Knockdrum Stone Fort, Stone hillfort in Castletownshend, Ireland
Knockdrum Stone Fort is a circular stone fort with walls three meters thick and two meters high, enclosing an area about twenty-nine meters across. Inside are the foundations of a rectangular Iron Age building and underground passages.
The fort dates to the Iron Age and underwent major restoration before 1860, followed by careful archaeological excavations from 1930 to 1931. These digs revealed the internal structures and significantly improved understanding of the site.

Reaching the fort requires following a ten-minute path and climbing stone steps to the top. The site is open to visitors year-round for self-guided exploration.
Stone slabs near the entrance bear ancient cup marks dating back three to five thousand years, found both inside and outside the fort walls. These carved marks reveal artistic expression from prehistoric people who visited this spot.
