Pathala Ponniamman Temple, Hindu temple in Kilpauk, Chennai, India

Located near Motcham Theatre, this temple features a main shrine dedicated to Divine Mother Shakti, known as Pathala Ponniamman, along with multiple deity shrines.

The temple originated 400 years ago when workers discovered a stone statue of Goddess Amma while cutting grass in what was then a dense field.

The temple includes shrines for Snake Gods and Navagrahas, representing nine celestial bodies significant in Hindu astrology and spiritual practices.

The temple operates from 6:00 AM to 11:30 AM and 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM daily, with extended hours on Fridays until 1:00 PM.

The original statue of Amma, discovered during the temple's founding, remains entombed underground and is not visible to current visitors.
