The garden spans 22,000 square meters with systematic collections of medicinal plants, rare species, and various environmental sections representing different global habitats.
Established in 1545 by the Venetian Republic, this garden represents the first academic botanical institution that continues operating in its original location.
The garden layout reflects Renaissance principles with a square inside a circular structure, divided into quadrants representing the four cardinal directions.
The garden opens from April to September between 9:00 and 19:00, with reduced hours during winter months and full wheelchair accessibility.
A Mediterranean dwarf palm from 1585 remains the oldest plant in the garden, documented in Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's scientific observations.
