Castel Firmian

Castel Firmian is a castle in Mezzocorona featuring a central square tower, residential chambers, and defensive fortifications with a moat overlooking the Rotaliana plateau. The layout combines practical defenses with spaces designed for comfortable living.

Construction began in 1480 under Nicolò Firmian's commission, with an existing tower incorporated into the southern side. This foundation established a residence that would be home to the family for generations to come.

A chapel inside honors Saint John of Nepomuk, reflecting the religious devotion of those who called this place home. The halls display portraits of family members, offering a window into the lives of the people who lived within these walls.

The castle remains privately owned and is not open to public visits, but its exterior can be viewed from the surrounding vineyards. You can walk around the surrounding area to see the building from different angles and perspectives.

During the 1700s, the structure underwent major changes that shifted its appearance from late Gothic to late Baroque, including the addition of a gallery salon. This transformation reveals how the family's tastes and way of living evolved over time.
