Rubein Castle

Rubein Castle is a medieval fortress at the edge of Merano with a stone tower that rises above a large park filled with old trees. The grounds also include a modern studio building in the garden that sits alongside the older structures.

The castle was first mentioned in 1220 and was controlled by a local family who served regional counts until that family line ended in the late 1300s. After that, ownership changed several times between different lords who kept the property across generations.

The chapel inside holds medieval frescoes and rare religious paintings from the 16th century that visitors can still see today. These artworks give the space a spiritual feeling and show what mattered to the people who lived here.

The location sits at the edge of Merano and is easy to reach, while also offering quiet garden spaces for walking and relaxing. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes if they want to explore the grounds and older architecture.
