Castel Sant'Angelo, Baroque military castle in Licata, Italy

The triangular fortress stands 130 meters above sea level on Monte Sant'Angelo, providing views over the harbor and Mediterranean Sea.

Spanish forces constructed this military complex between 1615 and 1640, incorporating an existing watchtower built by Camillo Camilliani in the 1580s.

The castle structure represents traditional Spanish military architecture with its central courtyard, barracks, stables, and defensive moat system.

Visitors can access the castle without payment from Monday through Saturday mornings to explore the military exhibits and historical artifacts.

During World War II, the castle received direct hits from American warships USS Brooklyn and USS Buck during the 1943 Sicily invasion.
