Castello Lambertini

Castello Lambertini sits in the center of Poggio Renatico, formed from multiple buildings that merged into a single structure over centuries of architectural evolution. The complex displays various styles from different periods, reflecting its long developmental history.

Built in 1650 by the Guastavillani family as a defensive fortification, the structure later passed to the Lambertini family who transformed it into a noble residence. This transfer marked the shift from military use to private aristocratic occupation.

The castle served as a hub for public life, housing municipal offices, a library, and community services until 2012, deeply shaping its role in local society. This function gave it a lived-in character that visitors can still sense in its spaces.

The grounds are accessible to visitors through guided tours organized by FAI, the organization that maintains and supports this national heritage site. It is helpful to check tour availability in advance before planning your visit.

In 1887 the castle underwent a complete architectural transformation by engineer Ruggero Carini, who introduced a neo-Gothic design that replaced its medieval features. This extensive renewal gave the structure its present-day appearance and character.
