Bosco della Panfilia, Forest reserve near Sant'Agostino, Italy.
Bosco della Panfilia is a woodland reserve located along the northern bank of the Reno River near Sant'Agostino. The site spans roughly 81 hectares and contains both natural forest sections and replanted areas with more than 170 plant species.
The woodland developed following a catastrophic flood in 1750 that destroyed the mansion standing at the site. The river's sediment deposits left behind created favorable conditions for diverse vegetation to establish itself.
The woodland takes its name from Marquis Panfilio Facchinetti, whose estate once occupied this land. Today visitors come to experience the natural diversity and observe how the forest has become an important refuge for wildlife and plants.
Mushroom collection requires special permits since both edible and poisonous species grow throughout the forest. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and take care on wet ground, particularly during periods of high water in spring and autumn.
During spring and autumn high water periods, large forest sections become temporarily flooded, transforming into marshy wetlands. These seasonal changes create special habitats that visitors can observe during visits at these times of year.
