Necropolis of Su Crucifissu Mannu

The Necropolis of Su Crucifissu Mannu is a prehistoric burial site with 22 rock-cut chamber tombs. Each complex includes entrance passages, corridors, and connected burial rooms that show how early inhabitants structured their graves.

The burial site originated in the Late Neolithic period around 3200 BCE and continued to be used through the Bronze Age. This long span of occupation shows how important the location remained for multiple generations.

The site shows how early Sardinian communities honored their dead and organized their societies. The carefully designed chambers tell stories of rituals and social structures that researchers continue to study.

The site is accessible via an unpaved road that branches from kilometer 224 of State Road 131 toward Porto Torres. It is best to explore the grounds on foot and take time to view the different burial structures at your own pace.

Archaeological excavations revealed human skulls bearing marks of trepanation, a procedure to open the skull bone. Many individuals survived these operations, suggesting considerable medical knowledge existed in this early period.
